Museum of Native American History Cultural Symposium


June 2-4 the Museum of Native American History in Bentonville, Arkansas will host their debut Native American Cultural Symposium and I am honored to have been asked to assist with the production. Friday morning, June 2, Sam Scinta, Co-Founder, publisher and editor of America’s premier publisher of Indigenous titles, Fulcrum Publishing, will set up a bookstore in the lobby of the Museum of Native American History. Storytelling sessions and book signings will be held there. Friday evening I will also be honored to part of a great symposium panel featuring four noted speakers and authors. The panel will include Joseph Marshall III, the celebrated Rosebud Lakota author of The Journey of Crazy Horse: The Lakota History, and Walking With Elders: The Wisdom of Lakota Grandfathers, and 12 other books. Gayle Ross, the relative of legendary Cherokee Chief John Ross, and internationally renowned storyteller will also be on the panel. Also joining us, the youngest Tribal Chairman in the history of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, and also the Co-Founder of the American Indian Theater Company in Tulsa, JR Mathews. Rounding out the panel is Co-Founder and Editor of Fulcrum Publishing, Sam Scinta. The theme of the symposium will be a discussion of The Wisdom of Black Elk’s Reunification Prophecies and Environmental Awareness. Saturday morning will again be focused on booksignings, readings by authors, and storytelling. The evening of Saturday, June 3 will kick-off with a Native American fashion show at 5:30PM. The splendid storyteller Gayle Ross will take the stage at 6:30PM. At 7:30PM I will perform my epic ballad Lakota, with legendary guitar virtuoso John Inmon accompanying me. At 8:30 a film segment from Osiyo TV will be shown, followed at 8:45PM by the first feature in a sunset film Native American film series. On Sunday, June 4 publisher/editor Sam Scinta will conduct a writers workshop in the Museum’s “Great Room”. The weekend will conclude with a “Prairie-to-Table” dinner from 4-6PM with a menu created by award-winning Chef Justus Moll.
